What's the highest Horsepower that a "Street Legal" 2005+ Mustang GT with an automatic transmission can go, and what parts will be needed?
MK
The 05-08 Mustang engine limits are at 525rwhp. The limiting factor is the short block. The weakest part of the short block is the rods and pistons. If you are looking at making 500-700hp an upgraded crank, a rods and piston kit will be needed. The block itself is a good piece and would be able to handle that horsepower range. Running at 500rwhp and a car properly tuned should not have any issues, once you go over the 525rwhp it is a ticking time bomb. If tuned properly it could last for a little while, an non properly tuned car, it could go on the first good hard acceleration.
The easiest and most reliable way to make close to 500 rwhp is with the Ford Racing/ Whipple supercharger. The kits will make about 480 rwhp and with the Ford tune it could run for ever. As long as the car is properly maintained. Dollar for Dollar a supercharger is the best way to make power.
